Derek Meadows, a five-star wide receiver from the Class of 2025, committed to LSU on Saturday. His commitment marks the Tigers’ second five-star recruit in just four days, following cornerback DJ Pickett’s pledge to head coach Brian Kelly’s program on Wednesday. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Meadows chose LSU over Notre Dame—previously seen as the frontrunner—along with Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan. Despite visiting all five schools, Meadows noted that his experience with the Tigers was the most impressive.
“The coaches treat everyone like family, and I want to be part of that environment,” Meadows told 247Sports. “Competing in the SEC is important to me, and I’m determined to keep working hard to face the best.”
Ranked as the No. 10 receiver and No. 68 overall prospect by the 247Sports composite, Meadows adds significant talent to LSU’s 2025 class.
Meanwhile, LSU’s tight end position, which was somewhat underutilized last year, could become a key element of the offense. Taylor, who has averaged 37 receptions, 381 yards, and two touchdowns per season, didn’t see much action last year, with less than 30 yards receiving in eight of the 11 games he played.
“I’m ready for the opportunity,” Taylor said. “My focus this year is to show my coaches and quarterback that I can be reliable, take on a bigger role, and maintain consistency.”
With Garrett Nussmeier now at quarterback and LSU needing to replace 63% of its receiving yards, Taylor’s role is expected to expand. Taylor, with 25 career starts—the most among LSU’s returning offensive skill players—had a career-high seven catches for 88 yards in Nussmeier’s first career start.
