The Los Angeles Lakers are actively positioning themselves for a potential trade before the deadline, with many expecting them to make a move focused on immediate success.
NBA insider Bobby Marks recently suggested a trade scenario where the Lakers acquire Chicago Bulls players Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball. To facilitate the deal, the Lakers would trade the expiring contracts of Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley, along with promising defensive prospect Max Christie and some draft assets.
This trade could be a significant boost for the Lakers. Although Ball and LaVine have struggled with injuries, they bring high upside. Lonzo Ball is known for his 3-point shooting, defense, and playmaking—ideal traits for a complementary role. Meanwhile, Zach LaVine is one of the league’s top scorers and could mesh well with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
While the Lakers have been linked to LaVine, it’s uncertain if they’re willing to absorb Ball’s contract. This trade would be high-risk, high-reward and could strengthen the team for a deep playoff run.
Alternatively, if the Lakers opt to retain Westbrook, they may consider smaller trades. They’ve been previously linked to Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon, who is drawing interest from teams like the Suns, Lakers, and Bucks.
Gordon, a seasoned veteran, is a reliable ball-handler and scorer off the bench, with extensive playoff experience from his time in Houston. However, the Lakers have other options to immediately bolster their roster around LeBron James, leaving open possibilities for the future.
