Although the Detroit Lions’ explosive offence has played a significant role in their recent success, one of their best wide receivers will miss the team’s next two games.
For breaking the league’s Performance Enhancing Substance (PES) rules, wide receiver Jameson Williams received a two-game suspension. Eric Woodyard of ESPN was the first to report the penalty.
Williams expressed his disappointment in a statement he made on Monday night, telling Woodyard he had “no choice but to take it on the chin.”
“I’m in good spirits, just ready to get back with my brothers ASAP soon as possible,” Williams stated.
Williams has been suspended twice in three seasons. He later acknowledged that he “wasn’t aware” of the league’s gambling policy, which resulted in a six-game suspension in 2023 that was eventually lowered to four.
With a career-high 361 yards and three touchdowns this season, the Alabama native is currently Detroit’s second-best pass receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown.
With 22.4 percent of quarterback Jared Goff’s total passing yardage (1,610), Williams, who was selected No. 12 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a vital part of Detroit’s offence.
When the team travels to play the Houston Texans on November 10, Williams will be able to rejoin the starting lineup.
