The absence of Ekeler has implications for both the offense and special teams, as he served as the primary kick returner, while Crowder had been handling punt returns. Rodriguez, who has been elevated, will serve as a backup to Jeremy McNichol and will also participate in special teams. There was anticipation that undrafted free agent rookie running back Michael Wiley would be promoted this week; however, Washington chose to elevate Rodriguez instead. Andre Jones Jr. has also been promoted from the practice squad and participated in nine defensive snaps. He will be active again with Ferrell missing his second consecutive game due to a knee injury sustained since the preseason.
