Caitlin Clark is trending, but not for her basketball skills—it’s about baseball. A recent video surfaced of her watching a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers, where she playfully acted as a broadcaster.
Teammate Lexie Hull shared the clip on TikTok, and it quickly gained popularity. The following day, Clark expressed to reporters that the experience gave her a newfound appreciation for baseball commentators, and she became interested in doing it for real.
“I told Lex I sometimes commentate games, and she said, ‘Let’s do it now.’ I didn’t realize she was recording at first, but it was a lot of fun. I’ve been following the Phillies, so I know some players,” Clark remarked.
She added, “It was funny—I messed up a few times, and it’s a tough job! I was out of breath after just two minutes, so kudos to all commentators out there. I’m not sure if I’ll commentate again, but maybe one day for fun.”
The Phillies shared a message from Tom McCarthy, who praised her and invited her to the booth whenever she wanted, also welcoming her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery. The Brewers responded similarly on X, formerly Twitter, encouraging her to join them for a game.
As for when fans might see Clark in this role, they might have to wait, as the WNBA Playoffs started on September 22 for the Indiana Fever.
In other news, the Phillies have secured a postseason spot. Manager Rob Thomson spoke about their plans for the playoff roster, suggesting a 12-man pitching staff and a larger bench. Key bench players like Garrett Stubbs and Edmundo Sosa are likely to make the cut, but several spots remain open for competition among players like Kody Clemens and Weston Wilson.
Notably, outfielder Austin Hays, who has been on the injured list for a kidney infection, has begun a rehab assignment. Thomson expressed confidence that Hays would have enough opportunities to get at-bats before the NLDS, especially if the Phillies secure a bye through the wild-card round.
If he joins Sosa and Stubbs on the bench, the team will need to decide among the other candidates for the remaining spots.
Additionally, right-hander Spencer Turnbull is set to start his rehab assignment, which could pave the way for his return in the postseason. Top pitching prospect Andrew Painter might also participate in the Arizona Fall League as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, although the team is being cautious with his timeline.
