Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton is ready to go the extra mile to help his team defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
As Week 2 approaches, Sutton told reporters he is willing to take on any role necessary to succeed against the Steelers, including blocking T.J. Watt if needed.
“I’ll do whatever is required in that moment,” Sutton stated. “If that means taking on T.J. Watt, then I’ll do it … whatever task they assign to me, I’ll execute it to the best of my ability to help us succeed.”
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 216 pounds, Sutton earned a 66.3 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus over 276 snaps last season. He had 15 run-blocking opportunities last week against the Seattle Seahawks, resulting in a 56.6 grade from PFF.
Blocking Watt, however, presents a different challenge. Watt is known for being one of the top run-defending edge rushers in the league, with an impressive 81.4 PFF grade for his performance against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 and an 80.7 grade for the 2023 season.
While it’s unlikely Sutton and Watt will directly face each other in run plays, both will have significant opportunities to impact the game on Sunday in different ways.
Last season, Sutton led the Broncos with 772 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, catching passes from current Steeler Russell Wilson. He’ll aim to improve on his Week 1 performance, where he had four receptions for 38 yards.
Meanwhile, Watt continues to be a strong candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, following a standout performance against the Falcons where he recorded a sack and a fumble recovery.
