Former Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell will act as an honorary captain for the No. 14 Tigers in their game against No. 1 Georgia on August 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Terrell will join Georgia’s honorary captain, Kevin Butler, and their respective team captains for the pregame coin toss.
Avieon Terrell expressed his excitement about reuniting with his brother in their hometown as Clemson kicks off their season in Atlanta. “I’m thrilled to play in front of our home crowd,” Avieon Terrell said. “My brother’s going to lead us out.”
This game marks the first of five scheduled matchups between Clemson and Georgia over the next decade.
In other news, longtime NFL quarterback Nick Foles recently announced his retirement. Foles, who won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII and was named MVP of that game, had a distinguished career including stints with the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Chicago, and Indianapolis.
Foles shares a connection with Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik, as both attended Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, known for its strong football program.
Klubnik, who views Foles as a mentor, humorously noted his surprise at Foles’ recent retirement announcement. Despite this, Klubnik praised Foles’ influence on his career, saying, “Nick’s awesome. He’s one of the best guys I know. He helped me through the whole high school recruiting process. … I even called him a few weeks ago for advice on using a headset.
