Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson is dealing with an ankle sprain, which head coach Mike Tomlin described as a week-to-week situation on Thursday.

Wilson is currently wearing a boot and while the exact recovery timeline is unclear, it seems likely he will miss a significant portion of the lead-up to the season.

“He’s got an ankle sprain,” Tomlin said. “Right now, it’s week-to-week. We have him in a boot as a precaution. I’ll provide more updates as he gets closer to being ready to play.”

Though the official term is “ankle sprain,” sources have indicated to PennLive that Wilson’s injury might actually be a high ankle sprain. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season but will be sidelined for a considerable time before then. The Steelers intend to take a cautious approach with his recovery.

In other news, the Steelers have re-signed veteran outside linebacker Markus Golden after injuries have severely impacted their outside linebacker group.

Golden, who was a key backup for the Steelers last season, was brought back due to his reliability and the familiarity he provides.

“He’s a really solid veteran,” Tomlin commented. “He requires little maintenance, is a true professional, and offers valuable experience. He was productive for us last year, recording four sacks in limited play, and is strong against the run.”

Jeremiah Moon has emerged as a notable performer during training camp. Meanwhile, the Steelers have waived/injured outside linebacker David Perales, who was seen with a large knee brace on Thursday following a knee injury. Additionally, Kyron Johnson missed practice due to hamstring tightness, prompting the team to bring Golden back as a reliable option.
