This announcement honors the incredible contributions these players have made to the Avalanche and the NHL over the last quarter-century.
The NHL and Colorado Avalanche revealed the franchise’s Quarter-Century Teams on Monday as part of the league’s celebration of the top players from the past 25 years. The first and second teams were selected by a panel of executives, media members, and retired players. To qualify, players had to appear in a game between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2024.
The Avalanche’s Quarter-Century First Team includes forwards Peter Forsberg, Nathan MacKinnon, and Joe Sakic; defensemen Adam Foote and Cale Makar; and goaltender Patrick Roy.
Player Highlights:
- Peter Forsberg: Recorded 303 points (86 goals, 217 assists) in 234 regular-season games and 80 points (27 goals, 53 assists) in 72 playoff games. A 2001 Stanley Cup champion, Forsberg won the Art Ross and Hart Memorial trophies in 2003. He appeared in two All-Star Games (2001, 2003) and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
- Nathan MacKinnon: Set a franchise record with 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists) in the 2023-24 season, earning the Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award. He has amassed 960 points (349 goals, 611 assists) in 829 regular-season games and 114 points (48 goals, 66 assists) in 88 playoff games. A 2022 Stanley Cup champion, MacKinnon has appeared in seven All-Star Games.
- Joe Sakic: Captained the Avalanche to the 2001 Stanley Cup, earning the Hart Memorial, Lady Byng Memorial, and Ted Lindsay Awards that year. Sakic scored 639 points (244 goals, 395 assists) in 567 regular-season games and 94 points (43 goals, 51 assists) in 96 playoff games. He is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.
- Adam Foote: Contributed 136 points (29 goals, 107 assists) in 445 regular-season games and 27 points (4 goals, 23 assists) in the playoffs. A 2001 Stanley Cup champion, Foote was a defensive stalwart, averaging 28:22 of ice time during the 2001 playoffs.
- Cale Makar: Holds Avalanche records for goals, assists, and points among defensemen in both the regular season and playoffs. Makar won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2020 and the Norris and Conn Smythe trophies in 2022, the same year he helped the team win the Stanley Cup. He has appeared in three All-Star Games and has been named to the NHL All-Star First Team twice.
- Patrick Roy: A 2001 Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Roy posted a .922 save percentage and a 2.02 goals-against average in playoff games for the Avalanche. In 223 regular-season games, he recorded a .920 save percentage and a 2.09 goals-against average. Roy is a Hockey Hall of Fame member and a three-time All-Star with the Avalanche.
