At 95 years old, Lois White proves that staying active and engaged is the key to a fulfilling life.
Twice a week, she suits up to play pickleball at the New Century Fieldhouse in Gardener, Kansas, alongside dozens of others in their sixties, seventies, and eighties.
A lifelong athlete, White has always embraced physical activity, from playing basketball and football to managing a family softball team with her late husband. After his passing more than 30 years ago, she leaned into staying busy as a way to stay sharp and active.
“You need to keep moving,” White said. “I don’t sit in front of the television in the daytime.”
Beyond sports, White’s dynamic life includes dancing, playing music, and keeping up with her expansive family: six children, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. While her family sometimes encourages her to slow down, she insists on living life on her terms.
“Yes, I do what I want. I’m very stubborn,” she said with a smile.
White’s twice-weekly pickleball games on Tuesdays and Thursdays are a testament to her philosophy that age is just a number and staying active is the secret to longevity and joy.
