Za’Darius Smith, after joining the Detroit Lions, was given 37 snaps in his debut game against Jacksonville and made a strong impression with a half-sack. Before that, he was active on the sidelines during the Texans game, offering guidance to teammates.
His performance earned him Scout Team Player of the Week honors, showing his value both on and off the field. Despite starting the season on injured reserve, Smith has impressed coaches with his work ethic and development in practice, earning his place in the team.
As he continues to progress, more playing time is expected, including potentially more snaps against the Indianapolis Colts.
In his first game back as a starter, Anthony Richardson led the Indianapolis Colts to a victory over the New York Jets, completing 20 of 30 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 32 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Coach Campbell highlighted Richardson’s improved performance, noting that the Colts have allowed him more freedom, which has helped unlock his potential. However, Campbell emphasized the importance of protecting Richardson from injury due to his high usage.
For Detroit’s defense, the challenge will be containing both Richardson’s running ability and the threat of running back Jonathan Taylor.
Although Richardson has thrown seven interceptions this season, limiting his rhythm and effectiveness as a runner will be crucial for the Lions to neutralize his impact.
