University of Memphis linebacker Karmelo Overton was rushed to the hospital after collapsing on the field during a home game against Rice University on November 8.
According to the *Commercial Appeal*, Overton, a redshirt freshman, was tackled by two Rice players during a kickoff.
Though he initially stood up and began jogging toward the sideline, he suddenly collapsed again and remained down for an extended period as teammates and medical staff gathered around him.
Overton was transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. Head coach Ryan Silverfield later reported that Overton was conscious and speaking after the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with him,” Silverfield said, asking fans to keep Overton in their thoughts. The team went on to secure a 27-20 victory over Rice.
