Antonio Pierce, the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, appears to be losing patience with his offence, at least as it is now.
Pierce issued a loud public warning to Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy on Wednesday, as the team’s offensive performance remains poor. While Pierce made it clear that the offense’s troubles are a team failing, not exclusively due to Getsy, he did indicate that he expects more from his offensive coordinator.
“Yeah, I think it has to get better,” Pierce said about Getsy’s play-calling, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “We’ve had plenty of opportunity to score points and create opportunities. And, yes, that is on the play-caller. But, as I’ve told our staff and our players, it’s all of us. It’s easy to sit here and blame Luke or myself, but when you look at O-line play, quarterbacks, running backs, turnovers, missed blocks, botched play executions, alignments on details, all of that needs to be cleaned up.
“So, yes, it starts with the coordinator. He has to be the one who takes the fall and bears the most of the blame. But it is a collective.”
Regardless of the guarantees given, this does not constitute a vote of confidence in Getsy. It doesn’t help that Getsy was plainly not the Raiders’ top pick for the job.
The Raiders are in the bottom ten in terms of points and total yards, and their quarterback situation is poor. Getsy may be limited in his ability to address any of these issues.
