Jayden Daniels, the quarterback for the Washington Commanders, was sidelined against the Carolina Panthers after sustaining a rib injury on the opening play of the game.
In the first quarter, Daniels went to the locker room; he didn’t come back to the sidelines until after halftime, when he was dressed in street clothes. Regarding Daniels’ X-ray, a source informed ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “He’s good.”
Daniels seemed to sustain the injury toward the conclusion of the Commanders’ opening play from scrimmage, a 46-yard run. Daniels attempted to stiff arm Panthers safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. at the finish of the run by swerving slightly to his left. Additionally, linebacker Marquis Haynes assisted in taking Daniels on from behind.
Before the Commanders’ next offensive series, he threw a warm-up throw on the field and winced. Marcus Mariota took over after he exited the field and slammed his helmet to the ground on the sidelines.
Daniels, who has been the offensive catalyst for a team that came into the game second in scoring, quickly left the field to spend the rest of the half in the locker room.
Daniels completed 75.3% of his throws for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions in the first six games. He added four more touchdowns and 322 yards of rushes.
