Although Cleveland’s West 6th tailgate for Browns games has become a legendary football tradition, several local business owners and staff are tired of the criminality that these gatherings bring.
Kelhen Jarquan, manager of Acqua Di Dea, stated, “Unfortunately, this is something that is getting worse and worse, so I think it’s a good idea just to stop them.”
This year, W. 6th Street won’t host any tailgates, some business owners told 19 News. Tickets for the future home games are no longer being sold, according to the W. 6th tailgate website.
The manager of Oliva Steakhouse, Chase Rhodes, stated, “It’s getting pretty bad. I’ve been down here for 15 years, and it’s unfortunate that we can’t have that anymore.”
After the last tailgate, in which a woman deliberately slammed her car into a panicked throng, slamming someone against the Grand Arcade Apartments’ doors, Rhodes and Jarquan claim they are still terrified.
Jarquan clarified, “I think the biggest deal on Sundays is the intoxication, too many intoxicated people.” This area has a high rate of substance misuse. I think, regrettably, the cops can’t do much because they can’t arrest, you know, 20,000 people.”
The tailgate organizer, Ethos Hospitality Group, was contacted by 19 News; however, we have not received a response.
Additionally, we made contact with Cleveland. We are anticipating a statement soon.
