Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix made headlines during Sunday’s game against the division-rival Raiders with two viral moments that have caught the attention of NFL fans.
However, his journey hasn’t been without challenges.
The Broncos started the season with two losses, scoring just one touchdown across those games. But since then, the team has found its rhythm.
Heading into Week 5 against Las Vegas, Denver was on a two-game winning streak.
This momentum carried into the Raiders game, though it didn’t start smoothly.
Denver was shut out in the first quarter, falling behind 10-0. Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby singled out Nix, seemingly trying to shake the young quarterback. At one point, Nix’s frustration visibly boiled over.
The Broncos now sit at 3-2 after defeating the Raiders 34-18, with Nix delivering his best performance so far—throwing for 206 yards and scoring three total touchdowns. Denver’s defense also dominated, forcing three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by cornerback Patrick Surtain.
One of the game’s most talked-about moments came when Nix was caught in an emotional exchange with Payton in the third quarter. In the postgame press conference, Payton downplayed any concerns, acknowledging the argument but assuring that there’s no deeper conflict, humorously remarking that Nix has “a little bit of Ferris Bueller” in him.
The mood in Denver is likely high after the win, which positions them firmly in second place in the AFC West. As they prepare to face the Chargers in Week 6, the Broncos have the chance to extend their winning streak. If Nix continues to improve, Denver could make a late-season playoff push. So far, through five games, Nix has totaled 866 passing yards, six touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 65.2% completion rate.
