As the Baltimore Orioles aim to finish the season strong and secure back-to-back AL East titles for the first time since the late 1970s, the organization is also preparing for some changes.
This shift in the team’s structure was anticipated following the takeover by David Rubenstein and his ownership group, which came about quickly after the death of the previous owner, Peter Angelos.
In July, the Orioles announced the hiring of Catie Griggs as their president of business operations, marking the beginning of a new era for the organization under Rubenstein’s guidance.
Rubenstein has indicated that he will not be involved in baseball operations, leaving that responsibility to executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias.
According to Roch Kubatko of MASN, changes are expected on the baseball side as well. Kubatko reported that longtime staff member Dave Schmidt will not return in 2025. Schmidt, a former Major League pitcher with an 11-year career—including three years with Baltimore—has been serving as the complex pitching and rehab coordinator near Sarasota. His role has included multiple terms as pitching coordinator and rehab coordinator, and he also once oversaw the Dominican program.
Though the team has not yet made an official announcement, Kubatko’s sources indicate that Schmidt has been informed that his contract will not be renewed.
