Massive Set Back: Steelers Most Important Off-Season Additions’ Campaign Likely Short Lived. As 32-Year-Old Former AFL Prospect Cops ‘Serious’ Injury Blow In Steelers Debut…SEE MORE…

Cameron Johnston, hailed as a key off-season acquisition for the Pittsburgh Steelers, may already be facing a season-ending injury. The 32-year-old former AFL player signed a three-year, $13.46 million contract in March to become the team’s primary punter.

However, his debut on Monday (AEST) was marred by an unfortunate incident. During the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh’s 18-10 victory over the Falcons, Johnston punted the ball but was hit by an opposing player.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin later indicated that Johnston might be sidelined for the remainder of the season. “From a health standpoint, Cam Johnston appears to have a serious injury,” Tomlin said. “I’ll provide an update when we next meet. It’s unfortunate for him.

He has been outstanding in team development and is an exceptional talent with a great attitude, so my heart goes out to him.”

While quarterbacks Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins were in the spotlight for their first games in new teams, it was Steelers kicker Chris Boswell who stood out. Boswell made all six field goals, scoring all 18 of the team’s points, and also stepped in as a punter late in the game.

Tomlin praised Boswell’s performance, saying, “I can’t say enough about Bos, not only for his kicking but also for his timely punt.” Pittsburgh played without their starting quarterback Russell Wilson, and Fields’ performance might lead to questions about Wilson’s place on the team.
