The Boston Red Sox could definitely use an upgrade at the top of their starting rotation.
While the Red Sox have had an impressive season so far, they are currently on the outside of the American League Wild Card race. This doesn’t mean their season hasn’t been successful, especially considering the low expectations they had at the start.
Despite facing significant injuries, the Red Sox have managed to stay competitive and could still make a playoff push, though it seems unlikely.
Looking ahead to 2025, the team could improve significantly, but addressing the starting rotation is crucial. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller suggested that the Red Sox should target a top starting pitcher and mentioned Blake Snell as a potential candidate.
Miller noted, “The Red Sox did re-sign James Paxton before the trade deadline, but that move fell short for a team that should have aimed for a top-tier ace. Since the deadline, Boston has given up more runs than any other American League team, falling from 1.5 games behind the No. 6 seed to nearly four games out. Acquiring someone like Blake Snell for the stretch run could make the deficit feel more manageable.”
Although Snell could have bolstered the Red Sox, the San Francisco Giants chose not to trade him. Boston might consider pursuing him in free agency this winter.
