BRONCOS LATEST: Zach Wilson’s Classy Response To QB Decision Presents Stark Contrast To Jarrett Stidham. With The NFL’s Vet Disappointed And Set To Leave, After Losing…SEE MORE…

Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham reacted very differently to Sean Payton’s choice to name Bo Nix as the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback. Wilson demonstrated considerable grace, while Stidham took a more confrontational approach toward the rookie.

Wilson, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was traded from the Jets to the Broncos this offseason. At the time of the trade, there was uncertainty about whether he would even make the final roster.

In contrast, Stidham had expected to lead the Broncos’ offense this season. He started the last two games of the previous season after signing a two-year, $10 million contract to back up Russell Wilson. As a former fourth-round pick, Stidham seemed well-positioned to retain that role—until Nix was drafted at No. 12 overall.

Payton ultimately chose to start the rookie over the seasoned veteran and announced his decision on Sunday night.

Stidham was blunt and expressed significant disappointment with the decision, coming across as abrasive despite the logical reasoning behind it.

On the other hand, Zach Wilson displayed nothing but respect for Nix and Payton. Although Wilson’s spot on the roster is not guaranteed—Denver might choose to carry three quarterbacks, and he might prefer not to stay on the practice squad—Payton has indicated that he plans to make it work.

“We’ve got enough money to … I understand the question. We feel comfortable with those three quarterbacks. I think I’ve told you already I see the three of them making it,” said Payton.

Despite the uncertainty of the final roster, Bo Nix will be the starting quarterback. Wilson and Stidham are clearly on opposite ends of the spectrum in their reactions to the news.
