The New York Knicks have re-signed one of their up-and-coming players to a new Exhibit 10 two-way contract for both the NBA and G League.
Forward Jacob Toppin was signed to this deal on Wednesday, as announced on the Knicks’ official PR X page.
Toppin had an impressive season with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA’s G League during 2023-24. The 6-8, 200-pound forward averaged 19.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 0.9 steals per game, shooting 48.2 percent from the field over 25 games.
However, his opportunities with the Knicks’ NBA team were limited. Toppin played in just nine games, averaging 4.2 minutes per game and recording 1.4 points on 55.6 percent shooting.
For the upcoming 2024-25 season, Toppin will vie for a backup forward position with the Knicks. The team is well-stocked at the forward positions, with OG Anunoby and All-Star Julius Randle starting at small forward and power forward, respectively. The Knicks also have Chuma Okeke, Keita Bates-Diop, and Precious Achiuwa, who can play as a forward. Despite this competition, Toppin will have the chance to compete for a spot on the bench.
As an undrafted player from the 2023 class, Toppin is set to play under his second Exhibit 10 contract. The Knicks are likely to benefit from his potential, especially given the injury challenges they faced last season. He will aim to secure a regular spot in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotation for the first time this season.
