On Monday morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a move to bolster their linebacker position. According to KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson, the team has signed Kyahva Tezino.
Tezino played all five years of his college football career at San Diego State, where he contributed to the Aztecs’ Mountain West championship win as a redshirt freshman in 2016. Over his college career, he accumulated 290 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, and 15.5 sacks.
Though Tezino was undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, he signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2020, but was waived on July 26. He then joined the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad until his release before the season began.
Tezino later played in the United States Football League (USFL), drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers in the 31st round of the 2022 draft.
On July 27, 2023, the San Francisco 49ers signed Tezino, who appeared in all three of their preseason games, making 23 defensive snaps and catching an 11-yard pass.
As for the Steelers’ quarterback situation for the 2024 season, it remains undecided. Mark Dominik, a former NFL executive and current Sirius XM NFL analyst, believes that Russell Wilson might be key to the Steelers’ playoff aspirations.
“I’m still optimistic about the Steelers making the playoffs,” Dominik said. “Even though Russell Wilson has thrown only 10 passes this preseason, I think they are holding him back to ensure he’s ready. They know he could be their ticket to the postseason.”
Wilson’s preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills did not help his cause, as the first-team offense remained scoreless in five drives, despite Wilson’s 8-of-10 passing performance.
