Celine Dion, the acclaimed Canadian singer, has expressed that she will be remembered for her timeless hits even if she decides to stop performing in the near future.
In a recent interview with Smooth Radio, the 56-year-old artist shared her perspective: “If you’re lucky enough to have even one classic song in your career, you can be remembered for it long after you stop singing,” she said. “And while I don’t want to come off as pretentious, I feel I’m in a good place.”
Dion made her first public appearance in recent times at the 2024 Grammy Awards and returned to the stage for the first time in four years at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, despite her ongoing struggle with stiff-person syndrome.
She has described her condition as feeling like she’s being “strangled” and has experienced frequent cramps and even broken ribs.
Dion first revealed her health issues in January when she canceled the North American dates of her Courage world tour, scheduled from March 9 to April 22, 2022. This announcement followed her earlier cancellation of the start of her Las Vegas residency due to the same health concerns.
Known as the ‘Queen of Las Vegas’ for her highly successful residencies, Dion ended her renowned Caesars Palace residency in 2019 but was later persuaded to return to Las Vegas for performances at the new Resorts World on the Strip.
Among Dion’s iconic songs are ‘Love Can Move Mountains’ (1992), ‘The Power of Love’ (1993), ‘My Heart Will Go On’ (1997), ‘I’m Your Angel’ (1998), and ‘I’m Alive’ (2000).
