KNICKS TRADE UPDATE: Former Kansas Basketball Standout Inks Two Way Contract Deal, With Knicks Nemesis Praising Jalen Brunson For Taking Massive $113 Million Pay Cut On New Contract. As Julius Randle Reacts After Team Names Veteran Guard Captain, The First In…SEE MORE…

It took some time for a Kansas basketball player to be chosen in the 2024 NBA Draft, but two former Jayhawks were selected in the second round. Kevin McCullar was picked 56th overall by the Denver Nuggets, then immediately traded to the New York Knicks. Known for his defensive skills and on-court leadership, many analysts considered him a draft-day bargain.

McCullar had been without a contract for over a month after the draft, raising concerns as he missed the Summer League due to a knee injury that also kept him out of the NCAA Tournament earlier this year. However, he finally signed a two-way contract with the Knicks yesterday.

The New York Knicks have named Jalen Brunson their captain, marking their first captain in six years. Brunson, who joined the Knicks in 2022, quickly emerged as a leader and was appointed the 36th captain in team history on Tuesday. The role had been vacant since Lance Thomas held it during the 2018-19 season.

Former Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem has also become an unexpected supporter of Brunson, praising him for a significant financial sacrifice made this offseason. Haslem, who understands the value of sacrifices, suggested that the Knicks should consider honoring Brunson with a statue if he leads the team to a championship, echoing recent comments by Josh Hart.

Haslem commented on The OGs Podcast, “There’s some stuff that you ain’t going to pull. He’s got the city behind him, Spike (Lee) supporting him, his father (Rick) on the coaching staff, and Leon Rose coaching him. They know winning is not a guarantee. Madison Square Garden will always welcome him. In retirement, he won’t be courtside; he’ll be in the owner’s box.”
