PHILLIES NEWS UPDATE: Dave Dombrowski Uses Trade Deadline To Make Improvements At The Margins. As Manager Rob Thompson Hits Pitchers With Reality Check Amid Struggles, And Veteran Nick Castellanos Gives Take On Free Fall And Bryce Harper’s Slump Since Stellar Performance At…SEE MORE…

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has crafted a high-caliber team that many felt was already strong enough without adding more star power.

The Phillies aimed to make a few strategic improvements around the edges of their roster and succeeded without trading away their top prospects. They retained Andrew Painter, Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford, Starlyn Caba, Mick Abel, and Eduardo Tait.

While the Phillies did trade two promising pitching prospects, Klassen and Aldegheri, to acquire Estévez, they got one back for Soto in the form of Johnson and also added young arm Chase from the Orioles. The addition of Banks came at the expense of Bergolla, a young infielder known for his contact skills but lacking in power, who was playing at High-A. The acquisition of Hays only cost the team two major leaguers, Domínguez and Pache, who were likely leaving the team anyway.

The New York Yankees extended their winning streak to four games by edging out the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 on Tuesday night. Following the loss, Phillies manager Rob Thomson addressed the team’s pitching issues and overall struggles, particularly their tendency to squander three-run leads. This defeat marked the Phillies’ second consecutive loss to the Yankees; the first game had been a 14-4 blowout highlighted by Juan Soto’s historic performance.

Jazz Chisholm, Jr. was a standout in the Yankees’ victory, hitting two home runs and driving in five RBIs. His contributions included an RBI grounder in the first inning, a home run off Aaron Nola in the sixth, and a three-run shot off Matt Strahm in the seventh that put the Yankees ahead 5-4.

After their 14-4 rout by the Yankees on Monday, the Phillies have now gone 4-9 in their last 13 games. Veteran Nick Castellanos noted a shift in the team’s atmosphere since the Dodgers series, describing it as feeling “different” and “weird.” Castellanos echoed sentiments of a lingering unease within the team.

In summary, the team seems to be experiencing a rough patch. Despite the challenges, it’s crucial for teams to stay resilient and quickly move on to the next game during the grueling 162-game season.
