The Los Angeles Lakers are anticipated to be active at the trade deadline, with initial rumors about their potential targets starting to emerge. After a challenging first half of the season, the team is looking to make significant roster changes and acquire players who align with their future plans.
Names such as Jerami Grant and Ben Simmons have been mentioned in connection with the Lakers. However, there could be additional players joining the team before the deadline.
Currently, the Lakers are turning their attention to a player from the Toronto Raptors in hopes of strengthening their lineup. Gary Trent Jr. has emerged as a viable option for Los Angeles, though the deal would require sending two players to Toronto.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports that the Lakers, who won the NBA championship in 2020, are interested in the 22-year-old Trent Jr.
At this point, executing this trade seems challenging for the Lakers due to their limited assets, which may not be enough to persuade the Raptors. Trent Jr. has established himself well since being traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Raptors’ temporary home in Tampa Bay last season, enhancing his performance and becoming a dependable two-way player for Toronto.
While the Lakers are known for making surprising trades, it appears unlikely that the Raptors would agree to this one. Trent Jr. is currently averaging 16.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 42.1% from the field and 37% from three-point range.
