BYU FOOTBALL NEWS: BYU’S Football Head Coach Kalani Sitake Reshuffles Roster Positions, With BYU Defensive End Aisea Moa To Change Position And Play Linebacker In…SEE MORE…

Kalani Sitake and the BYU football team will commence Fall camp later this month, gearing up for their season opener against Southern Illinois after five weeks of preparation. The 2024 season will see several returning players trying out new positions, notably wide receiver-turned-tight end Keanu Hill and defensive end-turned-linebacker Aisea Moa.

Moa, a highly rated recruit from the class of 2022, initially developed as a defensive end during his first two years at BYU. In high school at Weber High, Moa excelled in multiple roles, including defensive end, defensive tackle, and linebacker. Despite early projections suggesting a future as a defensive lineman due to his physique, weighing around 240 pounds throughout his BYU career has led Moa to trim down to 235 pounds to transition to linebacker for the upcoming season. This move aims to potentially accelerate his playing time on the field. Adding to the linebacker corps, Moa’s brother, Sione Moa, also transferred to BYU from Utah State.

Meanwhile, veteran wide receiver Keanu Hill, who has played wide receiver since 2019, will shift to tight end for the 2024 season as announced by BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick on signing day. Hill, known for his athleticism and solid blocking skills, faced challenges in maintaining his weight as a wide receiver. Embracing his body’s natural inclination to carry more weight, Hill has bulked up from 215 pounds to 240 pounds during the offseason, aligning with the average weight of BYU’s tight ends from the previous year, which was 243 pounds. This transformation positions Hill to excel as a receiving tight end, utilizing his route-running skills against safeties and linebackers, which promises to pose matchup problems for opposing defenses.

The 2024 BYU football roster reflects several other notable position changes:
– Keanu Hill: Tight End (previously listed as Wide Receiver in 2023)
– Koa Eldredge: Safety (previously listed as Wide Receiver in 2023)
– Kevin Doe: Cornerback (previously listed as Wide Receiver in 2023)
– Landon Rehkow: Punter (previously listed as Punter/Kicker in 2023)
– Aisea Moa: Linebacker (previously listed as Defensive End in 2023)
– Tyler Little: Defensive Tackle (previously listed as Offensive Line in 2023)
– Bruce Mitchell: Offensive Line (previously listed as Defensive Tackle in 2023)
