The Philadelphia Phillies ended the first half of the season with the best record in Major League Baseball. They had multiple players representing them in the All-Star Game, highlighting the depth of their roster.
However, like all teams, there are areas the front office believes can be strengthened to enhance their chances of winning the World Series. While every contender looks to bolster their bullpen, reports suggest the Phillies are also eyeing an additional power-hitting outfielder to add depth.
Several big names have been mentioned as potential targets, including Luis Robert Jr., Cody Bellinger, and Jazz Chisholm. Despite these possibilities, it seems Philadelphia may not be pursuing a blockbuster trade. Instead, they are likely seeking a player comfortable in a platoon role, particularly after a disappointing experience with Whit Merrifield.
Brent Rooker of the Oakland Athletics has been mentioned as a possible target, impressing the Phillies’ front office with his recent performance. However, they also have interest in Tommy Pham, a veteran outfielder known for his power, who played a role in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ victory over the Phillies in last year’s NLCS after being traded from the New York Mets.
Pham, now 36, signed with the Chicago White Sox in mid-April on a minor league contract and has been a bright spot in their lineup, hitting .264/.339/.368 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 60 games. While these numbers are not exceptional, his experience and potential contribution to Philadelphia’s clubhouse dynamics could be valuable.
Pham may not be their top choice, but he remains a viable option if the Phillies are unable to secure one of their preferred targets before the trade deadline.
