HUGE REVEAL: After Six Consecutive Appearance At The CFB Playoff With Three Missed Trips. Clemson Tigers Manager Dabo Swinney Gives State Of Program And Remedy To Return To Elite Status, As Garrett Riley Discusses Potential…SEE MORE…

After 12 consecutive seasons of achieving double-digit wins, Clemson finished the 2023 season with a 9-4 record, securing their ninth victory in an exhilarating Gator Bowl win over Kentucky, capping off the campaign with back-to-back wins. Head coach Dabo Swinney acknowledges that the program has slightly lost some of its national prominence due to missing out on a College Football Playoff berth for the past three seasons.

Swinney reminisced about Clemson’s previous six-year stretch when the team consistently thrived on the national stage, emphasizing their ability to win close games as crucial for sustaining playoff aspirations, despite the setback of a home loss to Pitt.

“In these last three years, in what’s been dubbed a ‘horrible’ era of Clemson football, we’ve been good but not great,” Swinney commented. “We’ve won more games than 94% of Division 1 teams over this period, which is commendable. But to achieve greatness, we need to aim for an A+.” This marks Swinney’s 16th season at the helm of the Tigers.

Garrett Riley arrived at Clemson amid considerable hype as a rising star coach. Having played a pivotal role in TCU’s national championship run in 2022 and earning the prestigious Broyles Award as the top college football coordinator, Riley’s debut season with Clemson in 2023 didn’t meet expectations, but there’s optimism for the upcoming season.

During a media session at Clemson’s Allen Reeves Football Complex, Riley addressed potential future head coaching opportunities, acknowledging their possibility but asserting his current focus on Clemson.

“While I have long-term career goals, my focus is on the present with Clemson,” Riley stated. “If opportunities arise in the future, I’ll evaluate them then. Right now, I’m content where I am.”

Despite Clemson’s offensive performance falling short of expectations last season, Riley’s tenure showed significant achievements. Under his leadership, the Tigers ranked 15th nationally in first downs per game, averaging 23.4, their ninth-best mark in school history. They also averaged 76.8 plays per game, the highest since 2016, indicating Riley’s effective strategic approach despite overall team performance.

“He’s incredibly organized, and his consistent demeanor and daily approach stand out,” Riley commented on Swinney. “It’s been a pleasure learning from him and the experienced staff here.” Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Clemson’s offensive potential is considered among the best in the country.
