On Saturday, Daylyn Upshaw, a highly-rated four-star prospect, became the first wide receiver to pledge commitment to the Miami football program in the 2025 class. Upshaw, ranked 387th overall, 59th among wide receivers, and 18th in Alabama by the 247Sports composite rankings, hails from Phenix City, Central.
Upshaw opted for Miami following official visits to the Hurricanes, Central Florida, and Florida in June, according to his 247Sports profile. Over his last two seasons, he amassed impressive statistics, recording 89 receptions for 1,627 yards and 18 touchdowns. Max Preps noted his standout performance in the recent season, where he caught 59 passes for 1,185 yards and 15 touchdowns.
During the 2023 season, Upshaw played alongside Cam Coleman, a five-star recruit bound for Auburn in 2024, showcasing his skills prominently. He joins Miami’s 2025 class as the 18th commitment overall, the 10th on offense, and the 14th blue-chip prospect. Upshaw was recruited primarily by Miami’s wide receivers coach, Kevin Beard.
Miami’s 2025 recruiting efforts are nearly complete across all offensive positions with Upshaw’s addition. While defensive positions have commitments secured, they are still seeking an interior lineman. Further commitments are expected in the next two weeks for Miami.
Upshaw marks the second Alabama recruit in Miami’s 2025 class, following three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt from Birmingham Parker, who committed earlier in June. Currently, Miami boasts four players from Alabama on its roster, including recent 2024 signees Cameron Pruitt and Cole McConathy II.
With Upshaw’s commitment, Miami’s 2025 class maintains a ninth-place ranking nationally. The Hurricanes aim to secure another top-10 class for the third consecutive year and could potentially challenge for a top-five finish depending on upcoming commitments in the next week.
