LSU football head coach Brian Kelly and his staff are continuing their successful recruiting streak, securing a commitment from four-star safety Jhase Thomas of Destrehan, Louisiana, as announced on Saturday.
Thomas, a highly sought-after local talent, chose LSU over competing offers from Houston, Texas Tech, and Colorado, among others. He received an offer from LSU in June and quickly committed to the Tigers just weeks later.
This commitment marks the first defensive back addition for LSU in the 2025 recruiting cycle, a significant achievement for secondary coaches Corey Raymond and Jake Olsen.
Thomas, whose recruiting profile has soared ahead of what promises to be a standout senior season, recently entered the Top 300 of On3 Sports’ recruiting rankings, solidifying his status as a four-star prospect. Known for his impressive performance during camps and his junior season at Destrehan, Thomas caught the attention of LSU coaches at the LSU Elite Camp in June, where he swiftly earned an offer from Kelly.
“Jhase Thomas was a standout who immediately drew the LSU staff’s attention,” said On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire on The Bengal Tiger Podcast. “He impressed with his speed, athleticism, and size, prompting an offer from Brian Kelly right after testing, before he even participated in drills.”
Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 175 pounds, Thomas reportedly clocked 40-yard dash times in the 4.4 range and demonstrated his skills in various drills.
LSU has a history of successful recruits from Destrehan, with recent standout Justin Jefferson making a significant impact in Baton Rouge before achieving NFL success. Now, Thomas aims to follow in Jefferson’s footsteps as the latest standout from Destrehan to commit to LSU.
Thomas becomes LSU’s 16th pledge in the 2025 recruiting cycle, highlighting the Tigers’ strong recruiting efforts under Kelly, who has seen four commitments announce their pledges in July alone.
