LSU could potentially boast one of the nation’s standout quarterbacks this season with Garrett Nussmeier stepping in for Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, following three years of waiting and showing promise in backup roles.
Apart from Nussmeier, LSU’s quarterback lineup remains robust. AJ Swann, a transfer, joins a group already featuring redshirt freshman Rickie Collins. Additionally, the Tigers secured four-star recruit Colin Hurley in the 2024 class.
Hurley, originally slated for the 2025 class, enrolled early at LSU in January from Jacksonville, Florida, at just 16 years old. Although he may not see immediate playing time, Hurley was highly regarded among 2025 quarterbacks before his reclassification.
Phil Steele recognized Hurley as one of the top 25 freshman quarterbacks nationwide. Despite a dip in his ranking due to reclassification, Hurley ended up as the No. 356 overall player and the 25th quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings.
It’s likely he will redshirt in his first year, allowing time for development, but there’s optimism that Hurley could emerge as LSU’s next standout quarterback with his talent and potential.
