The Atlanta Braves are currently locked in a heated battle in the NL East. They find themselves trailing the Philadelphia Phillies by a significant margin of nine games in the division race. It’s a challenging position for Atlanta to be in.
After the Braves’ recent victory over the Phillies, manager Brian Snitker was asked about the large deficit. He pointed out that the team has faced similar situations before, recalling their comeback from a ten-game deficit against the New York Mets in 2022.
“We’ve come back from being ten games down to the Mets a couple of years ago. Right now, we can’t afford to look too far ahead. We need to focus on today’s game and take it one step at a time,” Snitker emphasized.
Atlanta started the season strongly but has been hindered by injuries and a decline in performance, which contributed to their slide down the standings. Meanwhile, the Phillies have surged, leading to the current gap between the two teams. Despite this, Atlanta remains in contention for a Wild Card spot due to their solid overall record.
While a nine-game deficit seems daunting, especially at the midpoint of the season, Snitker remains optimistic about their chances. He stressed the importance of concentrating on each game as it comes, rather than getting ahead of themselves by fixating on chasing down the Phillies.
In essence, the Braves need to focus on their immediate challenges before worrying about closing the gap with their division rivals.
