Former Tennessee Volunteers defensive back Cameron Sutton has been suspended for the first eight games of the NFL season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Previously with the Detroit Lions, Sutton has been officially handed an eight-game suspension for a breach of the NFL’s personal conduct policy earlier in the offseason.
According to ESPN, Sutton participated in a pretrial diversion program in April to settle a domestic violence case. His legal issues arose from a misdemeanor battery charge, and he surrendered to authorities on March 31 after being sought for several weeks.
Sutton was in the second year of a $33 million contract with the Lions before his release following the charges. He began his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played for six seasons after being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
During his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee, Sutton showcased his skills over four seasons, tallying 127 tackles, including 13 for loss, along with seven interceptions and 30 pass deflections.
He was consistently one of the top defensive backs in the SEC, earning recognition such as freshman All-SEC honors and demonstrating improvement each year.
Throughout his NFL tenure spanning 101 games, Sutton has recorded 233 tackles, seven forced fumbles, and nine interceptions.
