The LSU football program is renowned for its recruiting prowess, consistently ranking among the top schools nationwide. As of now, LSU’s 2025 recruiting class holds the 4th spot nationally and 2nd in the SEC, as reported by On3. The class recently received a boost with the commitment of Indiana’s top prospect.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, edge rusher Damien Shanklin has decided to join LSU, opting for the Tigers over offers from Ohio State and Alabama.
Shanklin, a 6’5″ and 245-pound four-star recruit from Indianapolis, Indiana, played his high school football at Warren Central. Throughout his high school career, he accumulated impressive stats with 97 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, six sacks, and an interception.
Ranked as the No. 48 prospect in the nation by 247Sports and the top player from Indiana by On3 at No. 86 nationally, Shanklin adds to LSU’s recent recruits like defensive linemen Zion Williams and Brandon Brown.
Reflecting on Shanklin’s development, his high school coach Mike Kirschner noted his growth since joining the program as a freshman.
“He was much thinner back then, but already stood out at 6’2″ or 6’3″ with impressive physical abilities and a strong work ethic,” Kirschner said. “He’s coachable and consistently shows commitment every day.”
Additionally, LSU’s recruiting successes include securing commitments from top talents like Mississippi quarterback Bryce Underwood, considered the best prospect in the nation at his position.
