Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy announced on Tuesday morning at Big 12 media days that Ollie Gordon II, the 20-year-old star running back, will not be suspended for any games despite his recent arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Gordon was apprehended at 2:50 a.m. on June 30 after being stopped for speeding and swerving on Interstate 35. He expressed remorse in a social media post on Monday, a day before his public appearance following the incident.
Gundy addressed the matter with a select group of Oklahoma-based media before his main press conference scheduled for early Tuesday afternoon. He emphasized that his initial concern was whether anyone had been harmed in the incident, highlighting the potential lifelong impact such actions could have on individuals involved.
Regarding the decision not to impose a game suspension, Gundy cited the evolving landscape of college football. Gordon also issued a statement on Monday addressing his arrest:
“I deeply regret the actions that led to my arrest on June 30,” Gordon stated via X. “I apologize sincerely to my family, everyone in our program, including our players, Coach (Mike) Gundy, the staff, Oklahoma State University, and our fans.
Regardless of the outcome of the ongoing investigation, I did not uphold my personal values or those of the OSU football program. I am dedicated to learning and growing from this mistake, and I am committed to earning back the trust of those whom I have let down. Thank you.”
