According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Suns guard Damion Lee has agreed to a one-year contract to return to Phoenix. Lee had previously declined his player option of $2.85 million for the 2024-25 season.
Lee sat out the 2023-24 season due to a torn right meniscus. In the 2022-23 season, he played for the Phoenix Suns, averaging 8.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 20.4 minutes per game across 74 appearances.
This signing provides Suns coach Mike Budenholzer with a shooter who fits well into his system, known for optimizing players in specific roles within his roster configurations. Lee excels in contributing on both ends of the floor, particularly in chaotic defensive situations, and thrives in an offense that emphasizes unpredictability and quick decision-making.
Budenholzer has emphasized his preference for a fast-paced and spontaneous playing style in Phoenix, focusing on ball and player movement throughout the game.
Lee’s value was particularly evident in the 2022-23 season with the Suns, where he played a larger role than anticipated due to team injuries. Despite this, he performed exceptionally well in catch-and-shoot situations, boasting a three-point shooting percentage of 47.0% on 3.1 attempts per game, ranking him third in the league among players with similar or higher volume attempts.
