Chiefs Defensive Tackle Chris Jones Wants $83 Million Free Agent Edge Rusher Back In KC…

Edge rusher Frank Clark, previously of the Kansas City Chiefs, remains unsigned as of July. This is why Chiefs’ All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones continues to advocate for Clark’s return to Kansas City.

On July 2, Jones posted on Instagram, urging the Chiefs to bring Clark back with the message, “@chiefs please get him back @stonecoldjones95 please get him back,” alongside a photo of Clark working out in the gym.

In April 2019, the Chiefs acquired Clark from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2019 first-round pick, a 2020 second-round pick, and a swap of 2019 third-round picks. Kansas City subsequently signed Clark to a substantial five-year, $104 million contract.

During his tenure with the Chiefs, Clark made a significant impact, accumulating 263 tackles, 131 quarterback hits, 67 tackles for loss, 58.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions in regular-season play. His postseason performance was particularly notable, recording 40 quarterback pressures (26 hurries, 11 sacks, 3 hits) and 23 stops across 12 playoff games, as reported by PFF.

Clark, a three-time Pro Bowler with the Chiefs, continued to excel during Kansas City’s 2023 Super Bowl campaign, recording 11 pressures (7 hurries, 3 sacks, 1 hit) and 3 tackles for loss in three playoff games. His postseason efforts elevated him to third all-time in sacks in postseason history with 13.5, trailing Willie McGinest by just 1.5 sacks, per StatMuse.

Ultimately, Clark’s departure from the Chiefs was driven by financial considerations. His $28.6 million cap hit in 2023 prompted the Chiefs to release him on March 7, freeing up $21 million in cap space for the team to utilize during the last offseason.
