Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster and WIP radio host Howard Eskin has been a prominent figure in the Philadelphia sports community for many years. However, following an internal investigation into an alleged unwanted advance by Eskin, a decision was made on Tuesday that will prevent him from attending Phillies games for the remainder of the year.
According to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, later confirmed by a brief statement from Audacy, the parent company of WIP-FM, Eskin has been accused by an Aramark employee of making an unwelcome advance, described as an “unwelcomed kiss”. This incident reportedly occurred before a game in the CP Rankin Club at Citizens Bank Park.
Aramark, the food and facility service provider for the Phillies, also acknowledged the incident in a statement, noting that an employee had experienced an unwanted advance from an Audacy employee. They collaborated with Audacy and the Phillies to ensure appropriate measures were taken to protect their employees.
The Philadelphia Phillies issued a statement expressing their support for Audacy’s decision to suspend Howard Eskin from attending games at Citizens Bank Park.
Eskin has scaled back his role at WIP since 2011 but continues to host a Saturday morning radio show on the station. Despite this controversy, Audacy has stated that Eskin’s role at WIP is not slated to change.
Howard Eskin has been a fixture in Philadelphia sports radio since 1985, with additional contributions including stints on KYW-TV (now CBS News Philadelphia) and as a sideline reporter for Philadelphia Eagles games on WIP. This incident may tarnish his legacy in the community where he has been a revered figure for decades.
