The University of Oklahoma celebrated a historic day as they officially joined the SEC, departing from the Big 12 after years of dominance in that conference. Monday in Norman was marked by jubilation, with numerous activities planned to commemorate their move to the nation’s premier conference.
Adding to the excitement was the commitment of four-star wide receiver Cortez Mills, a standout from Florida who chose Oklahoma over offers from Clemson, Nebraska, LSU, and Florida. Mills had visited Oklahoma during the spring on an official visit and expressed his strong affinity for the program.
Emmett Jones played a pivotal role in building a strong relationship with Mills, and the commitment of other 2025 wide receiver prospects for OU also contributed to securing his commitment. Oklahoma managed to sway Mills away from Clemson, who had been considered the front-runner earlier in the summer.
Ranked as the No. 196 player by 247Sports and the 88th overall prospect according to 247’s Composite rankings, Mills is a consensus four-star recruit across all major recruiting services. Known for his speed and athleticism, Mills excels at winning contested passes, making him a valuable addition to Oklahoma’s offense.
With Mills joining the fold, Oklahoma now boasts 20 commits for the 2025 class, elevating them to the fifth-ranked recruiting class in the 247Sports team rankings, surpassing Texas A&M and Oregon Ducks in the process under the leadership of Brent Venables.
