Caitlin Clark struggled with a migraine during the Indiana Fever’s victory against the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. Despite her health issues, the 22-year-old set another milestone by achieving her 138th assist of the season, establishing a new franchise record for a rookie.
However, Clark was substituted late in the game and subsequently skipped her media obligations following the 88-82 win.
Christie Sides later disclosed that Clark had been unwell throughout the game, despite her impressive performance of 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. When asked about the decision to substitute Clark, Sides attributed it to a tactical choice, emphasizing the need for a defensive lineup to secure crucial stops.
Regarding Clark’s health, Sides confirmed, “She didn’t feel well throughout the entire game so she’s with her trainer right now.” It was later clarified that Clark was suffering from a migraine, a recurring challenge she has faced throughout her career, often playing through the pain.
In the game against the Phoenix Mercury, where stars like Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner featured prominently, Clark played for 39 minutes and narrowly missed achieving a triple-double, falling just one rebound short.
