BYU football’s defense will receive a significant boost this season with the return of Micah Harper, who is coming back from his second ACL injury. Harper, who stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 195 pounds, last participated in a game in 2022, tallying 62 tackles, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles that season.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Harper aims to make a bigger impact on BYU’s defense. He assured KSL Sports that he will be fully ready for the start of fall camp at the end of July, saying, “I’m 100% right now. I’m full go. Doc gave me the OK, and I’ll be good to go on July 31.”
“I want to show everybody, my family and myself, and I want to prove to everybody that I’m healthy again. Or even just people who are going through injuries. You can go through a major injury and it’s not the end of the world. You can come back stronger than you did when you left the field.”
Harper has not yet had the chance to compete in a game under defensive coordinator and safeties coach Jay Hill. The Chandler, Arizona native eagerly anticipates the opportunity, expressing his enthusiasm: “I’ve been excited to play in Jay Hill’s defense since he arrived. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to play last year, but I participated in many practices under him and loved every second of it.”
Known for his impactful style of play, Harper returns to a safety unit that has gained significant game experience following injuries to Harper, Talan Alfrey, and Tanner Wall last season. Harper is expected to lead the group alongside the versatile athlete Talan Alfrey.
