Former LSU Tigers Star Quarterback And One Of Drafts Most Infamous No.1 Pick In NFL History, Fired As Coach And Faces Lawsuit For…

In 2007, the Las Vegas Raiders chose LSU standout quarterback JaMarcus Russell as the top pick in the NFL Draft following a dismal 2-14 season. Russell, known for his imposing size and powerful arm, was heralded by scouts.

However, his commitment to being a franchise quarterback was questionable from the start; reports later revealed he didn’t even review game films. Ultimately, Russell is now remembered as one of the NFL’s most notorious draft disappointments.

During his NFL tenure, Russell started only 25 games, all for the Raiders, failing to secure a spot with any other team. He exited the league just three years after being drafted first overall.

Despite his struggles as a player, Russell later attempted coaching, volunteering at his former high school, Williamson High. Regrettably, his coaching career has mirrored his NFL experience.

Recent reports indicate Russell was dismissed from his volunteer coaching role and faces legal trouble: he allegedly wrote a $74,000 check to the school, ostensibly as a donation.

However, the school’s football program did not receive the funds, with accusations that Russell misappropriated $55,000 from the donation. Consequently, he is now banned from the school premises.
