Jed Hoyer’s frustration with the Chicago Cubs is growing as their losing streak persists. With the MLB trade deadline approaching in a month, the Cubs face difficult choices. Initially poised as potential buyers who might pursue major trades, the team’s poor performance has prompted Hoyer to contemplate selling off talent to rebuild.
In a recent ESPN interview, Hoyer candidly discussed the team’s struggles and hinted at forthcoming changes: “It has gone on longer than we anticipated or desired. We need significant improvement. We find ourselves in a deep hole that we must climb out of.”
Looking ahead to the trade deadline, Hoyer stressed the urgency of turning things around quickly: “We have about 33 days to correct this. Sometimes, tough decisions must be made.”
His reference to “hard decisions” suggests potential player trades if the team’s fortunes do not improve. Several Cubs players possess considerable talent that could attract interest from other teams. Reflecting on the unexpected duration of their slump, Hoyer remarked, “I’m quite surprised. What started as a couple of weeks stretched into four, then six, then eight… It’s been relentless.”
The Chicago Cubs have dropped to one of the poorest standings in the National League, and dissatisfaction among players is evident. Justin Steele, a key pitcher for Chicago, has had a strong season but has not secured a win. The team’s lack of backing has begun to affect him, leading to a moment of emotional outburst when he vocally urged his teammates to “WAKE THE F*** UP” as he returned to the dugout after an inning against rival Milwaukee Brewers.
