Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are contributing significantly to the New York Yankees’ offense, but additional support is needed. General manager Brian Cashman is contemplating a trade proposal to convince the Colorado Rockies to part with third baseman Ryan McMahon. Chris Kirshner and Brendan Kuty from The Athletic devised various hypothetical trade scenarios, which former general manager Jim Bowden reviewed. One scenario proposes sending McMahon to the Bronx:
According to Bowden, “I think this trade makes a lot of sense for both sides. McMahon would be an ideal fit as the Yankees’ next third baseman. The suggested return seems fair, although if I were the Rockies, I might seek to include Oswaldo Cabrera as a fourth player in the deal.”
MLB.com ranks New York’s prospects Will Warren and Brandon Mayea as seventh and ninth respectively among the team’s top 10 prospects. Warren, close to Major League readiness in Triple-A, contrasts with Mayea, an 18-year-old currently in Rookie Ball.
Earlier this month, ESPN’s Jeff Passan connected the Yankees and Ryan McMahon in trade rumors, suggesting McMahon could be a suitable addition for the team. Passan noted, “When you’ve got Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, what more do you need? Well, another high-octane bullpen arm would be nice.
Maybe a corner-infield bat? (McMahon would be a perfect fit, actually).” McMahon, a left-handed hitter, has been having a standout season at the plate, boasting a .277/.353/.476 slash line with 14 home runs, 42 RBI, and 42 runs scored over 336 plate appearances. As of June 28, his .830 OPS would represent a career-high if the season were to conclude.
