Clemson wide receiver Blackmon Huckabee has embarked on a new career path as a recording artist, releasing his debut single titled “Run With Me” on June 14. A native of Clover, S.C., Huckabee expressed the significance of this release in an Instagram post, reflecting on the challenges he overcame both mentally and physically during its creation.
“This song is incredibly special to me, not only because it marks my debut, but because of everything I’ve endured through this journey,” Huckabee shared. “I almost lost my right leg completely, broke the other one in three places, and still managed to finish the season while working on this track.”
Huckabee began his collegiate career at Furman in 2020 before joining Clemson as a walk-on in 2021. He saw limited playing time with the Tigers, and in the spring of 2023, he faced a serious injury scare during a workout that nearly resulted in the amputation of his leg. Despite this setback, he returned to the field only to suffer a broken leg later that fall, requiring three surgeries in total.
“Through all the ups and downs (and three surgeries), we created a fantastic song that’s both enjoyable and relatable,” Huckabee remarked about his journey. “I poured my entire personality and artistic vision into this project, and it’s just the beginning of what’s to come.”
Huckabee’s musical talents first caught attention among Clemson fans when a video of him performing an acapella rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey” went viral last summer. Head football coach Dabo Swinney had spontaneously showcased Huckabee’s vocal skills during a team meeting, leading to further recognition when Huckabee sang the National Anthem acapella at Memorial Stadium in front of 83,000 attendees during Clemson’s Military Appreciation game on November 11.
