Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez will be sidelined for an extended period due to an oblique strain. SNY shared footage of manager Aaron Boone discussing the issue, noting that Domínguez could be out for “up to eight weeks” before he can return to game action due to the severity of the strain.
This setback marks another unfortunate event for Domínguez, who made a flashy debut in the majors last year. With the Yankees enduring a challenging season in 2023, Domínguez was called up in September and immediately made an impact by hitting four home runs in his first eight games.
Unfortunately, his promising debut was cut short by Tommy John surgery, marking the start of a challenging 2024 for him. He began the season on the injured list as he recovered from the surgery and was only activated last week. Despite the Yankees having a strong outfield lineup with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Alex Verdugo, plus Giancarlo Stanton as designated hitter and Trent Grisham on the bench, Domínguez was sent to Triple-A to get consistent playing time.
However, just days after returning from the IL, he was placed on the minor league injured list due to tightness in his side over the past weekend. This setback means he faces another extended period of recovery, with an expected eight-week timeline that could keep him out until mid-August.
Ideally, Domínguez would be proving himself with regular playing time and aiming to secure a spot with the Yankees in 2025. For now, that opportunity is on hold. If his recovery progresses as planned, he may still have a few weeks to play towards the end of the season, but it’s a waiting game for Domínguez at the moment.
