Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo exits game due to injury in his lower right arm following a collision.
Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo exited Sunday night’s game against Boston during the seventh inning following a collision with Red Sox pitcher Brennan Bernardino at first base, resulting in a hard fall on his right arm.
Rizzo was sprinting down the baseline as first baseman Dominic Smith threw to Bernardino, who was moving to cover the base. The throw was slightly off-target, leading to a collision between Bernardino and Rizzo, who fell to the ground in foul territory after safely reaching the bag. Upon landing, Rizzo immediately clutched his hand/wrist area.
The team later confirmed it was an injury to his lower right arm.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update after the 9-3 defeat to the Red Sox, stating, “The initial X-ray showed no significant damage, but Anthony is experiencing discomfort in multiple areas of his lower arm. He will undergo further tests tomorrow to assess the extent of the injury. It was clear he was in pain on the ground and struggling with certain movements, so we made the decision to remove him from the game.”
